Abstract

As the largest manufacturing industry in the world, the food processing industry has always faced water environment pollution challenges during its development.

Eco-Friendly Tech for Effective Odor Control

As the largest manufacturing industry in the world, the food processing industry has always faced water environment pollution challenges during its development.

In food processing operations such as meat, dairy, and starch processing, malodorous wastewater is frequently generated. This is due to the high concentration of organic matter in the wastewater, including proteins, fats, carbohydrates, as well as sulfur-containing and nitrogen-containing compounds.

Under anaerobic conditions, these substances are decomposed by microorganisms, producing strongly odorous gases such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, mercaptans, skatole, indole, and volatile fatty acids.

China has various methods for controlling odors from food processing wastewater, including biological methods, chemical methods, and physical adsorption methods. Physical and chemical methods not only require huge initial investments but also involve high subsequent operation and maintenance costs, consuming significant manpower and material resources.

Through continuous exploration, Nbio Company has successfully combined on-farm compound Bacillus technology with aeration processes, enabling the rapid elimination of odors in food processing wastewater within 24 hours, while effectively reducing COD levels and making the water clear and transparent. Although microbial agents have a relatively slow adaptation period, they represent the most feasible solution for small and medium-sized enterprises to overcome technical and financial barriers.

Typical Treatment Case

Wastewater generated from corn processing runs through the entire production process. High-strength wastewater mainly comes from the steeping process and gluten separation stages. This wastewater emits a strong and typical mercaptan-type odor, accompanied by the release of harmful gases such as H₂S and NH₃.

For the wastewater in the sedimentation area of the treatment system, we install additional aeration aerators and regularly add compound Bacillus (e.g., once per week). This effectively improves environmental quality, achieving the result of zero complaints from surrounding residents.

Live microbial deodorization technology, being non-toxic, harmless, and free from secondary pollution, aligns with the principles of green production and circular economy.

In the future, it will play an increasingly important role in the technological upgrading of small and medium-sized food processing enterprises, achieving an integrated approach to odor control and resource recovery.

Live microbial deodorizers are suitable for various scenarios, including waste storage sites, waste treatment plants, livestock and poultry farms, harmless treatment facilities, slaughterhouses, food processing plants, sludge tanks, landscape water bodies, public restrooms, septic tanks, hotels, restaurants, canteens, kitchens, households, and any other places where odors are generated.
